Election: Complete!

The 2012 presidential election is finally OVER! I have to admit that it was extremely nerve-wracking, checking for the results all day, watching Romney take the lead...

Oh, I should mention that I voted for Obama.
I'm not ashamed of that, just as I wasn't ashamed to have done so four years ago, and just as anyone who voted for Romney now or McCain back then shouldn't be ashamed. Hopefully those were informed decisions.

The painful part of the whole thing... Well, the most painful part of the whole thing is that people who voted for Romney or didn't like either candidate were very sore about it. We're talking rude, awful comments. Comments about President Obama being a "monkey", moving to Canada/Australia/ some other place. Comments about how the US should split in half, or how the fifty states should become fifty separate countries, what have you.

While I can guarantee that I wouldn't have been happy if Romney had won, for a variety of reasons, I certainly wouldn't have behaved in the manner that I saw so many people behaving on Facebook. It's just... Disappointing. Disturbing.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the next four years have to bring. I just hope it's amazing :)

Now I'm off. Off to continue watching/listening to President Obama make his speech.

30 Days of Thanks?

Let's be honest: I avoid those "30 Days of Thanks" or "30 Day Challenges" or whatever on Facebook. I avoid them like the plague.

But for some reason I've decided to take a look at the things I AM thankful for. And, you know, post them all at once. Over and done with, you see! ;)

1) I'll be cliché and say that I'm thankful for my husband. Because I am. Even when I feel like drop-kicking him.

2) I'm thankful for my dad for helping me get where I am in life. For encouraging me to grow up and be independent, telling me that I can do it if I put my mind to it, and encouraging me to never settle when I know that I can do great things.

3) I'm thankful for my old roommates (and our handsome non-roommate). My friends are wonderfully amazing, and that's all there is to it.

4) I'm thankful for my mother. She's inadvertently helping us get a leg up in life, among the other amazing things.

5) I'm thankful for my ability to run. I may not be amazing at it, but I can do it.

6) I'm thankful for my in-laws. For being more supportive than I ever expected in-laws to be.

7) I'm thankful that I'm able to vote...

8) ... And that hopefully election ads will be OVER after this.

9) I'm thankful to have had supportive doctors...

10) ... And that 7+ months of hard work with them after nearly 7 unsuccessful months and lots of tears have really paid off.

11) I'm thankful that I made it into a Master's program...

12) ... That I'm SO CLOSE to being done with said Master's program...

13) ... And that I have the opportunity to apply for doctoral programs (applied for two - fingers crossed!)

14) Speaking of Master's programs, I'm thankful for my husband getting accepted into the one he applied to. Not to mention proud of him :)

15) I'm thankful that I'm able to recognize who and what I do and don't want in my life, and that I have the option to choose.

16) I'm thankful that I can count, because I totally almost made this #17 and not #16

17) I'm thankful for the fact that I'm able to go into a profession I love.

18) I'm thankful to have a husband so accepting of the fact that, even though we're married, we have lifestyle differences. Specifically, dietary differences.

19) I'm thankful to be able to provide my friends and loved ones with Christmas gifts I really believe they'll enjoy. And yes, I know it's only November 3.

20) I'm thankful that a certain family member is finally opening his/her eyes about the spouse s/he has chosen, and is starting to work on taking care of him/herself more. This person always told me that it's hard to take care of others when you're not taking care of yourself...

21) I'm thankful for the people who have been willing to give me a chance.

22) I'm thankful that in the near future I will be able to afford to get my dog in to get some potentially harmful lumps removed from him.

23) Heck, I'm thankful that my dog is still alive. He's blind and mostly deaf, he's about 12-13 years old, but he's still around :)

24) I've said it before but I'll say it again: I'm thankful for my husband. He's not perfect, but who am I kidding, neither am I? I'm glad to share my goals and dreams with him.

25) I'm thankful to have such an awesome internship supervisor. Many are so hands-off, but when he realized that I wasn't getting the educational experience I needed he came up with a plan.

26) I'm grateful to have my own desk at my internship. It may not seem like a big deal to some, but that's no small thing to me.

27) I'm grateful to have power. Plain and simple.

28) I'm grateful to have the option of saying "I'm not hungry, I'll eat later"...

29) ... And that "later" is "now".

30) I'm grateful to have been able to think up so many things (and, let's be real, that I've reached 30 and therefore have completed this thing!)

:D

And there you have it!

(And with that, here's my #23. Another thing I was grateful for: since the loss of sight and hearing, he's been less inclined to play with toys or even chew on bones. So I have a billion pictures and at least 10 minutes of video of him just going to town on this bone)
